If you want a few hours of real excitement during your stay in La Fortuna, this is the tour for it. You'll head out with your group to one of the rivers near town, get fitted with your gear, and paddle together through rapids with green rainforest on both banks.
Before you get in the water, the guides go over safety and paddling commands, so you know what to do when the river picks up. Then it's teamwork: following the calls, working through the rapids and enjoying the calmer stretches in between. The whole tour takes about three hours.
