Coati Tours is our family business. We plan every trip the way we'd plan it for our own family, from the day you arrive until the day you fly home.
Our story
From coffee and horseback trails to Coati Tours
Before Coati Tours, Elsy worked in the coffee trade. With a Business Administration degree from the National University of Costa Rica, she saw how much travelers could gain from meeting the real, rural Costa Rica, and how much local communities could gain from welcoming them. In 2009 she founded Coati Tours to bring the two together.
Wilson's path started on horseback. In the early 1990s he was guiding riders along the trails around La Fortuna, and over more than 30 years in tourism he became the kind of guide who spots a sloth before anyone else sees the tree. In 2020 he was officially certified as a professional tour guide.
La Fortuna is still home, but we arrange trips anywhere in Costa Rica. Today we build each trip from scratch: tours, transportation and lodging, and accessible itineraries for seniors, wellness travelers and guests with reduced mobility. If something isn't possible, we'll tell you honestly and help find what is.

Professional tour guide
Over 30 years in Costa Rican tourism, starting as a horseback riding guide in the early 1990s and officially certified as a professional tour guide in 2020. An expert wildlife spotter based in La Fortuna, he'll help you find birds, monkeys and sloths at a pace that suits your group.

Elsy Bonilla
Founder; bookings, tour inspections, sales and marketing
A Business Administration graduate of the National University of Costa Rica, Elsy worked in the coffee trade before founding Coati Tours in 2009. She handles your bookings, inspects the tours herself and focuses on rural community and accessible tourism.
