The Agami Heron is one of the most secretive and colorful herons in the Americas, and few places let you watch it nesting. This half-day trip takes you to a 30-hectare conservation reserve near Katira de Guatuso, where a colony of Agami Herons returns to nest each season. We run it from June to September, when the birds are there.
What you'll do
We pick you up at your hotel and drive to Katira de Guatuso together. At the reserve, your professional bilingual guide walks you along the nature trails and helps you look for the herons and the many other birds that live there. Along the way you'll learn why this place is protected and how conservation keeps the colony coming back. If you've brought a camera, your guide will help you find good angles without disturbing the birds. Lunch and refreshments are included before we bring you back to your hotel.

The walking is easy, and the pace is quiet and unhurried, so it works well for birders, photographers, families and travelers who prefer a calm morning in nature over a big adventure.
